About Cogs Client:

Our client is a globally recognized leader in commercial real estate and facilities management, supporting some of the world’s most respected brands with comprehensive property operations, engineering, and workplace services. With a strong presence across North America, they are known for delivering high-performance environments that prioritize safety, efficiency, and service excellence. Their commitment to operational integrity and client satisfaction has earned them a reputation as a trusted partner in managing complex real estate portfolios.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Director of Engineering and Facilities Management to lead all non-data centre engineering and facilities operations across the U.S., with a central base in New York City (Upper East Side). This is a strategic and operational leadership role for a seasoned professional who brings deep expertise in managing complex building portfolios, union labor environments, capital project execution, and vendor performance across multiple sites. The ideal candidate will not only set the direction and standards for operations but will also be an active presence across facilities, championing safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the strategic and day-to-day engineering and facilities management for a national portfolio, excluding data center operations.

• Build, mentor, and lead regional facilities teams while maintaining strong working relationships with unionized trade personnel and ensuring adherence to labor agreements.

• Ensure optimal performance of building systems through preventive and corrective maintenance programs, energy efficiency initiatives, and infrastructure upgrades.

• Oversee large-scale capital projects from planning through execution, managing budgets, timelines, compliance, and vendor performance.

• Serve as the senior point of contact for internal stakeholders and external service providers, ensuring quality service delivery aligned with company standards and client expectations.

• Implement and enforce EHS protocols and building code compliance across all facilities.

• Own and manage financial performance including operating budgets, cost control measures, and resource allocation for engineering operations.

• Proactively identify risks and opportunities across building systems and service contracts, driving continuous improvement initiatives.

• Guide and enforce corporate policies and operational SOPs across the engineering and facilities landscape.

• Conduct site visits to ensure accountability, service quality, safety, and execution of operational priorities.

Qualifications & Education:

• 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering or facilities management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity overseeing multiple sites.

• Demonstrated success managing unionized labor and maintaining productive, compliant relationships with trade organizations.

• Proven experience leading facilities across diverse property types (commercial, corporate, healthcare, etc.).

• Strong understanding of building systems, MEP, energy management, safety compliance, and lifecycle planning.

• Exceptional project management and vendor negotiation skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.

• Professional certifications such as CFM, FMP, PE, or equivalent are strongly preferred.

• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence across organizational levels.

• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

Benefits:

• Medical, dental, and vision coverage

• 401(k) plan with company match

• Paid time off, holidays, and flexible leave options

• Wellness programs and employee assistance resources

• Life and disability insurance

• Career development and educational assistance
