About the College/Unit/Department

The Office of University Architects (OUA) is responsible for the development and management of the campus master plan, including transportation planning, historic preservation planning, environmental planning, and precinct planning; the development and management of campus site design and architectural standards; GIS management of existing conditions; and the coordination and project management of major capital projects for all of the UGA campuses across the state.

Position Summary

Position is responsible for maintaining university-wide Geographical Information System (GIS) database; coordinating with campus and other stakeholders in data collection and management; supporting facilities planning efforts with geospatial analysis, mapping, and graphics production; and exploring and testing new technologies, software, and platforms to continuously improve the quality and utility of campus GIS.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

-Geographical Information System (GIS) knowledge involving GIS database design & implementation with production & maintenance of GIS data layers. -Geography, cartography, computer graphics, planning or related field. -Geospatial research knowledge -Knowledge of cartographic principles, geo-database design & database management systems, LiDAR & other remote sensing technologies, internet-based mapping solutions & publishing geospatial services -Written, verbal & graphic communication skills -Knowledge of ESRI, Autodesk, Microsoft Office Suite, & Adobe software applications -GIS designing & implementing spatial data management systems; engaging in data acquisition & maintenance from diverse sources including field notes, surveys, construction as-builts, and remote sensing; familiarity with scripting languages in ArcGIS (python/javascript) & application development germane to GIS data capture & integration; experience developing and/or maintaining dynamic, web-based GIS mapping solutions.

Design and implementation of campus GIS/spatial data management system; Engage in GIS data acquisition, development, and maintenance programs; and develop and implement policies and procedures for GIS data acquisition, development, maintenance, and distribution to coordinate and communicate efforts across campus community

Percentage of time 45 Duties/Responsibilities

Coordinate and oversee data collection from multiple internal and external stakeholders; monitor, track, and respond to system problems; recommend and coordinate trouble shooting procedures.

Conduct geospatial analysis to support campus planning, design, and documentation efforts; Produce GIS-based maps for OUA project management support and campus departmental support

Research and monitor new technologies and trends related to GIS/Remote Sensing and other digital mapping solutions; recommend strategies for use of new technologies, products, systems, software; plan upgrades and replacements of existing systems.

Oversee intern and consultant efforts related to GIS data collection, development, maintenance, and map publishing solutions.
