Job Description
The Town of Ashland is seeking qualified applicants for a full time Local Inspector in our Building Department. This position works under the direction of the Building Commissioner and is responsible for enforcing the provisions of MA State Building Code (780 CMR), the MA Architectural Access Board (521 CMR), local zoning by-laws and Town by-laws, for the safety and protection of the public.
Salary Range: $75,000-$80,000
Anticipated Start Date: Immediately
Work Location: Town Hall
Work Week: 40 Hours per week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8am-4pm, Wednesday 8am-7pm, Friday 8am-1pm

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent; Five years’ experience in the supervision of building construction or design; Bachelor’s degree or enrollment in a relevant degree program preferred; Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and permitting software; Experience with online permitting (OpengGov) and use of a tablet in the field; Certified by the Board of Building Regulations and Standards; Certified as Local Building Inspector preferred; Valid driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS
Must have proficient computer skills. Must have excellent customer service skills. Must be able to establish and maintain effective work relations. Must possess good written and oral communication skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed under both office conditions and off-site field work. Office may have regular interruptions. Field work is conducted under varying weather and other conditions with exposure to some occupational risks and requires local travel. Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment and clothing. Operates a personal computer and standard office equipment.
May be required to work outside of normal business hours to accommodate evening office hours, seasonal fluctuations, and off-site appointments; will be required to attend night meetings as needed. Employees are always on call to respond to emergency situations. Responds as needed by the Fire Department and Police Department.
