POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Occupational Therapist, the certified occupational therapy assistant provides occupational therapy services under the direction of the occupational therapist and according to the physician's plan of care.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy assistant program with either an associate’s degree in science or applied science that is approved by American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc.
• Current Occupational Therapy Assistant certification with the State of Florida
• Current CPR Certification
• Valid Florida Driver's License. Current Auto Insurance

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the Occupational Therapist in assessing patients' functional abilities and limitations to develop individualized treatment plans.
• Implement therapeutic activities and exercises as directed by the Occupational Therapist to improve patients' motor skills, strength, coordination, and range of motion.
• Provide hands-on assistance and guidance to patients in performing therapeutic exercises and activities aimed at enhancing their independence in activities of daily living (ADLs), such as dressing, grooming, bathing, and eating.
• Instruct patients and their caregivers on proper techniques for completing therapeutic exercises and using adaptive equipment to promote safety and maximize independence.
• Monitor patients' progress during therapy sessions, document observations, and communicate findings to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
• Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, including nurses, physicians, and other therapy disciplines to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for patients.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, in accordance with regulatory guidelines and agency policies.
• Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and continuing education opportunities to enhance clinical skills and stay abreast of best practices in home health occupational therapy.
• Adhere to ethical and professional standards of practice, including maintaining patient confidentiality and respecting patients' rights and dignity at all times.
• Demonstrate empathy, patience, and a positive attitude in providing emotional support and encouragement to patients facing physical and cognitive challenges.
