Organization

West Suburban Community Pantry (WSCP) is a nonprofit organization that creates opportunities for our neighbors in DuPage and Will Counties to thrive by providing nourishing food and access to support services. WSCP operates in Woodridge where neighbors can shop in person or place an online order to pick up groceries. Each week, WSCP serves approximately 1,000 families. Last year, WSCP distributed 3.9 million pounds of food and groceries to neighbors in need.

 

Position Summary

The Pantry Lobby and Market Coordinator supports the In Person Market Manager in the operation of the West Suburban In-Person Market. The pantry market is open 3 days per week and receives donations from 20 retail partners and 4 from Northern Illinois Food Bank. The Pantry Lobby and Market Coordinator provides service to our neighbors (customers) and volunteers with compassion, dignity, and respect. The Pantry Lobby and Market Coordinator reports to the In Person Market Manager.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Acts as the lead in the lobby and In-Person Market during food distribution and non-distribution days, adhering to the In Person Market Manager’s instructions for that shift. Ensuring that all volunteer roles are filled with the volunteers for that day (coordinating with the Volunteer Coordinator and other Operations staff), and that the lobby is a welcoming and dignified space.
  • Maintains the PantrySoft database with incoming registrations.
  • Responsible for training volunteers in pantry check-in procedures as well as In-Person Market operational tasks.
  • Provide all shopping options available and important information needed for the community of neighbors.
  • Set up workspaces in the lobby and the In-Person Market while assigning roles to volunteers.
  • Work with Inventory and Online Manager and Warehouse Coordinator to ensure product on the floor remains full during food distributions.
  • Mediate any issues that may arise with neighbors or volunteers as it relates to client service, or when advised by the In Person Market Manager. Escalates issues to leadership as needed.
  • Follow instructions set by the In Person Market Manager in the usage of PantrySoft and the check-in procedures.
  • Maintain database by monitoring all incoming registrations, reconciling duplicates as they arise, and ensuring data is entered and maintained.
  • Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to welcome and on-board new volunteers (tour, supplies, introductions to other volunteers).
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports to Northern Illinois Food Bank.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment.
  • Attend staff meetings, required trainings, and pantry’s major fundraising events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with staff, volunteers, and customers. Can effectively develop and maintain professional relationships.
  • Comfortable with computers and technology, troubleshooting and training.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Ability to work with minimal direction
  • Ability to work with people in a professional manner
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail
  • Ability to be open-minded to new work ideas and methods
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds and push/pull carts up to 250 pounds.
  • Able to use manual or electric pallet jacks or willing to be trained

 

Additional Information

This position is full-time 40 hours per week; this position requires flexibility in a work schedule that may shift due to staff vacations or illness. Regular Work hours are: Tuesday 7:30 – 4:00, Wednesday 7:30 – 4:00, Thursday 7:30 – 5:00, Friday 7:30 – 4:00 and Saturdays 7:00-2:30.
