This data will help identify areas of improvement for patient engagement and dental health outcomes. The member will revise program materials to encourage participation. The member will also conduct formal in-class education sessions for students on nutrition, food choices/healthy eating for overall health, and dental disease prevention. About the Organization: The San Francisco Department of Public of Health School Based Dental Program provides oral health services to over 8,000 children throughout the city with the fluoride varnish programs, State of California mandated kindergarten surveillance program, and sealants for 2nd and 5th graders. Major Duties and Responsibilities The Member Will Schedule and coordinate intervention/class logistics Creating healthcare and wellness educational materials Facilitate and conducting healthcare and wellness trainings and classes Conduct data collection Keep and organize documentation and records Characteristics of an Ideal Candidate An Ideal Candidate Has The Following Qualities Flexible Organized Multi-Tasker and Able to Balance Community Engagement/Outreach Skills Able to communicate effectively with all individuals Knowledge Required for the Position Knowledge of AmeriCorps/Health Corps member requirements Skill with Microsoft Office or other software for a variety of data processing operations involving a range of problem solving, record keeping, correspondence, and service tracking options. Skill of using the school based data base Members will be trained if they have no prior experience with school data bases. Supervision Member uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments following set procedures, independently The supervisor assigns service activities, advises on changes in procedures, and is available for assistance when required The supervisor assigns service activities in terms of project objectives and basic priorities and is available for consultation in resolving controversial issues. Review The service activities are reviewed for accuracy through spot checks, through complaints from customers, and through observation of the member at service. Completed projects are reviewed very generally to determine that objectives have been met and are in compliance with policies and regulations. Guidelines Written and oral guides provide specific instructions for doing service Detailed guidelines exist, including regulations and directives, handbooks, precedents, industry standards, and files of previous projects Complexity Member has little or no choice about how to perform the service position The facts or conditions of the service position are clear cut, predictable, and apply directly to the assignment Special Considerations Personal vehicles are not required for this position. The clinics are accessible via public transportation. Dress Code: Jeans and sneakers may be worn provided they are clean and not torn or ripped. While in any clinical setting, closed toed shoes must be worn. The member will: Serve approximately 40 hours per week. Serve Monday-Friday from 8:00AM - 5:00PM. Language Proficiency Requirements No language other than English is required. Proficiency and skill with Spanish, Cantonese, and/or Mandarin would be useful to the member to communicate with a wide range of people (administrators, teachers, parents, dentists, and children). Criminal History Check Requirements Beyond NHC Standard Checks Upon Conditional Acceptance of an NHC AmeriCorps Position, all AmeriCorps members must complete TrueScreen Background Checks to be formally placed in the AmeriCorps Program. No Background Checks or Health Exams required beyond what is required of NHC AmeriCorps Members.
