Senior Accountant

Job Type: Full-Time | On-Site Reports to: Ownership / Executive Leadership

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and provide key insights to support decision-making. This role is vital to maintaining compliance, improving financial processes, and leading budgeting and forecasting efforts. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable collaborating across departments and with field staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes
• Perform and oversee balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations
• Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions
• Conduct cash forecasting, tax reporting, and financial compliance activities
• Maintain accurate double-entry bookkeeping practices across multiple entities
• Reconcile bank statements and ensure integrity of financial records
• Develop and enforce accounting procedures, internal controls, and compliance standards
• Assist in annual budgeting and financial forecasting processes
• Support and coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals
• Collaborate with operations on cost control, driver settlements, fuel usage, and asset depreciation
• Provide mentorship and support to accounting staff and Executive leadership
• Evaluate and streamline accounting systems, software, and reporting tools

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of accounting experience, with 2+ years in a senior or supervisory role
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Experience with accounting software's QuickBooks; familiarity with Transportation Management Systems, Axon is a plus 
• Proficient in Excel and Financial Data Analysis
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities

Preferred Experience

• Background in small business accounting
• Experience in transportation, logistics, or trucking industry
• Knowledge of DOT compliance, IFTA reporting, freight billing, and multi-state tax issues
• CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification strongly preferred
